Sam Platt is a Brooklyn based audio engineer, producer, and web developer, specializing in spatial audio.
Sam’s work continues to evolve with the ever-changing industry, staying on top of new technologies to build on his strong foundation of in-studio and live concert work. He is a recent graduate from NYU’s Music Technology master’s program, where he focused his research in digital signal processing, concentrating specifically on 3-D audio and utilizing human-computer interactivity to better connect listeners with audio.
Sam has toured domestically and internationally as both a Monitor and Front of House engineer, most notably with the actor and musician David Duchovny. Sam has worked in many New York venues, including Webster Hall and the legendary Comedy Cellar, where he was the Senior Sound Engineer.
Sam has run sessions at a variety of studios across the New York area, but is primarily focused on growing his own Brooklyn based studio. Sam designed the studio with the independent musician in mind, creating an ideal environment for tracking high quality demos and overdubs without the high price.
Sam mixes and masters extensively out of this studio, working on projects such as full band studio sessions, post productions for live concerts and events, and spoken word for film and podcasts. He also works with Grammy-Winning Mastering Engineer Alan Silverman, assisting on sessions and performing the final quality checks before delivering to the client.
Sam’s master’s thesis, “HEADER: a Harmonized Enveloping Audio Digital Experience Renderer,” is an audio-visual experience, using the listener’s webcam to track head movements that in turn affect aspects of the sound.
